After his racing career, Innes Ireland became a respected motoring journalist and a writer. He was a Grand Prix correspondent for Road & Track magazine for many years. He also authored several books, including his autobiography: 
  • Motor Racing Today (1961) – Written from his hospital bed after his huge accident at Monaco, the book gives a brief run down of his career to date at that time, the racing scene as it was then, his competitor’s, the circuits  and Team Lotus.
  • All Arms and Elbows (1967) – Autobiography (2nd edition published in 1994 and 3rd edition published in 2005).
  • Marathon in the Dust (1970) – An account of the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon rally.
